About Me
My name is Maegan Garrett and I have been teaching grade one for eighteen years. I absolutely love what I do, and working with small children brings me great joy! For the past 11 years, Jack Hulland Elementary has been my school community. I feel very fortunate to be a part of the staff, and am thrilled with the caliber of teachers I work with. Before working here in Whitehorse, I lived and taught in the community of Old Crow for many years. I was as much a student as a teacher in this tiny place, and I learned a great deal from the elders and my students. The Yukon is such a stunning land, and when I am not busy teaching, chances are I am out enjoying the beauty it has to offer.
My Education
|
I received my B.Ed. from the University of Victoria in 2005. I was awarded the McMicking, McCullogh and President's awards for outstanding practicum performance and academic excellence. In 2003 I received my B.A from the University of Victoria, graduating with distinction.
I have gained so much knowledge from my experiences and interactions with people outside of school. It is these "real-life" lessons, that tend to inform my approach to teaching, and to life. |

2018 - I received the Alice Easton Award from the Yukon Teacher's Association. This award is given in recognition of meritous service to the teaching profession. Thank you to the many colleagues and parents who nominated me for this award.
A true education extends beyond the classroom. The ability to learn and the desire to discover are innate human responses to the world. We are all born with a love of learning and I believe that it is my job as a teacher to nurture this natural curiosity. The sheer joy of self-discovery is essential to learning, and we must find ways to make education an empowering experience that lasts a life time!
